Soccer legend Abby Wambach has cut ties with Casey Wasserman’s management firm after his name surfaced in the Epstein files. “I have left the Wasserman Agency,” Wambach wrote in a post on Instagram Wednesday. “I read Casey Wasserman’s correspondences in the Epstein files. I know what I know, and I am following my gut and my values. I will not participate in any business arrangement under his leadership. I also need to say this: I’m grateful to my agent, who I’ve known for almost 20 years and trust. Casey should resign. He should leave, so more people like me don’t have to. I am unclear of my next steps. That’s OK with me, I just know where I can’t be.”
Wambach, who is widely considered one of the greatest female soccer players of all time, is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a FIFA World Cup champion. She has received six U.S. Soccer Athlete of the Year awards and was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2019.
Wambach is among the latest high-profile figures to leave Wasserman’s agency, joining several recording artists — including Chappell Roan — who have publicly announced their departures amid the scandal. The founder-CEO’s connection to late financier and convicted sexual offender Jeffrey Epstein’s associate Ghislaine Maxwell emerged in documents earlier this month. “I deeply regret my correspondence with Ghislaine Maxwell which took place over two decades ago, long before her horrific crimes came to light,” Wasserman said in the statement to the New York Times. “I never had a personal or business relationship with Jeffrey Epstein. As is well documented, I went on a humanitarian trip as part of a delegation with the Clinton Foundation in 2002 on the Epstein plane. I am terribly sorry for having any association with either of them.”
