Jonathan Groff and Bowen Yang shared a warm and flirty moment together during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The Broadway and “Saturday Night Live” stars, respectively, did a dance number at the beginning of Groff’s performance alongside his “Just in Time” cast. It ended with Groff kissing Yang on the hand. Groff leads the Broadway musical, which is about the life of singer Bobby Darin.
The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a ratings juggernaut for NBC and Peacock, with viewership over 31 million people last year.
In this year’s Broadway Actors on Actors, Groff spoke with “Sunset Blvd.” star Nicole Scherzinger about channeling a real person who came from a different world.
“Bobby Darin was this playboy crooner,” he said. “I’m this guy from Amish country Pennsylvania. Who would think we had that much in common? But we both have this deep, passionate connection with the audience. We say it’s the only relationship he was any good at. This immersive experience of being in the audience, looking in people’s eyes … I’m showering them with sweat and spit. It’s like I’m a sprinkler going around.” The cast of “Just in Time” also includes Sarah Hyland, Sadie Dickerson, Emily Bergl and Joseph Barbara. Yang is no stranger to the world of musicals, as he is one of the stars of “Wicked: For Good,” which is a box office blockbuster this holiday season, and is expected to add $100 million more to its total from Wednesday to Sunday.
