HBO to Develop ‘Fort Bragg Cartel’ Series About Drug Trafficking and Murder in U.S. Special Forces
HBO is developing a series based on the upcoming book “The Fort Bragg Cartel: Drug Trafficking and Murder in the Special Forces,” which investigates narco-trafficking and unsolved homicides within U.S. Special Forces units stationed at Fort Bragg.
The cabler says it won the rights to the book, written by journalist and military veteran Seth Harp, in a competitive bidding war. HBO is currently searching for a writer and showrunner to lead the series.

“The Fort Bragg Cartel” is set to debut on The New York Times bestseller list on Sunday, Aug. 31. The book begins as an investigation into the 2020 double homicide of two American soldiers stationed at Fort Bragg, before uncovering a wave of drug trafficking, unsolved killings and corruptions tied to U.S. Special Forces. It details how military veterans smuggled drugs back into the U.S. from countries like Iraq and Afghanistan and got entangled with cartels, and also reveals a network of conspiracies aided by corrupt police and military cover-ups.

The series will be executive produced by Harp alongside former HBO Films president Len Amato via his company Crash&Salvage.
Harp is an investigative journalist and foreign correspondent who has reported from countries such as Iraq, Syria, Mexico and Ukraine for a variety of outlets including The New York Times, The New Yorker and Rolling Stone. Prior to becoming a reporter, he practiced law in the state of Texas for five years, and during college and law school he served in the U.S. Army Reserve and did one tour of duty in Iraq. He is represented by CAA.
