Kimberly Hébert Gregory, ‘Vice Principals’ Star, Dies at 52
Kimberly Hébert Gregory, an actress known for her role in HBO’s “Vice Principals,” died on Oct. 3. She was 52.
Gregory’s ex-husband and actor Chester Gregory posted about her death on Facebook.
“Kimberly Hébert Gregory / You Were Brilliance Embodied, / A Black Woman Whose Mind Lit Every Room, / Whose Presence Carried Both Fire And Grace. / You Taught Us Lessons In Courage, / In Artistry, In Resilience, / And In How To Keep Showing Up, / Even When Life Demanded More Than Its Share,” he wrote.

Born in 1972 in Houston, Gregory graduated from The High School for Performing and Visual Arts. She attended Mount Holyoke College, where she received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and later pursued a master’s in social work from the University of Chicago. While living in the Windy City, Gregory appeared in multiple Chicago Theatre Company productions and was nominated for best supporting actress in a play at the 1998 Joseph Jefferson Awards Equity Branch for her performance in “Shakin’ the Mess Outta Misery.”

Gregory’s first film credit was in “I Think I Love My Wife,” starring Kerry Washington and Chris Rock. Throughout the 2000s, Gregory made appearances in shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Gossip Girl,” “Two and a Half Men,” “Law & Order,” “Barry,” “The Act,” “Dollface,” “Better Call Saul” and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine.”
Gregory appeared in “Devious Maids” in a recurring role before joining “Vice Principals,” where she portrayed school principal Dr. Belinda Brown opposite Danny McBride and Walton Goggins.

In an Instagram post from Oct. 4, Goggins called Gregory “one of the best I’ve ever worked with.”
“I had the honor… the good fortune of getting to know, getting to spend months working with this Queen on ‘Vice Principals,‘” Goggins wrote. “She made me laugh like no other. A professionals professional. A gatdamn SOPRANO that never missed a note.”
She is survived by her ex-husband and son.
