“Monster” Season 4, which will focus on Lizzie Borden, has found its leading lady. Variety has confirmed that Ella Beatty will star as Lizzie in the fourth season of the Netflix anthology series. In addition, Rebecca Hall has been cast as Lizzie’s stepmother, Abby Borden, while Vicky Krieps will play Bridget Sullvan, a maid in the Borden household. The fourth season of “Monster” was first reported to be in the works back in early July. “Monster” Season 3, which will star Charlie Hunnam as Ed Gein, is believed to be releasing later in 2025.
Lizzie Borden lived in Massachusetts in the late 1800s. In 1892, she was accused of murdering both her father and her stepmother with an axe at their shared home. Borden was eventually acquitted of the crimes, but the brutal nature of the murders attracted nationwide attention and contributed to Borden’s place in popular culture.
The case has been the subject of numerous adaptations across a wide variety of media. Recent examples include “The Lizzie Borden Chronicles” TV series starring Christina Ricci and the film “Lizzie” starring Chloë Sevigny and Kristen Stewart. This now marks Beatty’ second collaboration with “Monster” co-creator Ryan Murphy. Beatty made her TV acting debut in “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans” in the role of Kerry O’Shea. She made her film acting debut in A24’s 2025 film “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You.” She is repped by CAA and Entertainment 360. Hall is set to appear in Murphy’s upcoming FX series “The Beauty” and recently guest starred in the hit Apple TV+ series “The Studio.” She previously on the BAFTA TV Award for best supporting actress for her work in “Red Riding: The Year of Our Lord 1974.” She has also gotten BAFTA nominations for the TV series “Parade’s End” and for the film “Passing.” Hall is known for her roles in films like “The Town,” “Vicky Christina Barcelona,” and “The Prestige.” She is repped by WME, Julian Belfrage Associates, and Hansen Jacobson.
Krieps will appear in Season 3 of “Monster,” which will mark one of the few TV roles she has had in her career. She is primarily known for her film work, including starring in “The Phantom Thread” opposite Daniel Day-Lewis as well as “Corsage,” “Colonia,” and “Old.” She is repped by CAA and United Agents. “Monster” originally debuted on Netflix in 2022 and hailed from creators Murphy and Ian Brennan. The first season received widespread acclaim, particularly for the performances of Evan Peters as Jeffrey Dahmer and Niecey Nash as Glenda Cleveland. Peters won a Golden Globe for the show, while Nash won an Emmy. It currently ranks as the fourth most-watched season of TV in Netflix history. Season 2 debuted in September 2024 and told the story of the Menendez brothers. Deadline first reported Beatty’s casting.
