Netflix has ordered a new young adult drama series titled “Poser” from Lauren Iungerich, the creator and showrunner of the MTV dramedy “Awkward.” “Poser” is an eight-episode, one-hour drama series that “explores toxic female friendship through the lens of a sexy, emotional thriller,” per Netflix. The show is centered on two estranged former best friends. According to the logline, “When one of them is given a chance to live the life she’s long coveted, and maybe get answers as to why they fell out years ago, she finds herself in a psychological game of revenge, betrayal, and heartbreak — ultimately altering their lives, and those around them, forever.”
Iungerich is the creator and showrunner of “Poser,” executive producing alongside Jamie Dooner under their Crazy Cat Lady Entertainment banner. The series falls under Iungerich’s overall deal at Netflix. After “Awkward,” she co-created the Netflix teen dramedy series “On My Block” with Eddie Gonzales and Jeremy Haft. The Los Angeles-set show ran for four seasons and starred Sierra Capri, Jason Genao, Brett Gray, Diego Tinoco, Jessica Marie Garcia, Julio Macias and Peggy Blow. “On My Block” spawned a short-lived spinoff titled “Freeridge,” named after the fictional L.A. neighborhood in which the show was set. Iungerich also co-created the supernatural comedy series “Boo, Bitch” for Netflix, alongside Tim Schauer, Kuba Soltysiak and Erin Ehrlich.
“Poser” joins Netflix’s YA programming, which also includes the Jenna Ortega-starring smash hit “Wednesday,” the sci-fi phenomenon “Stranger Things” and the popular teen drama “Outer Banks.”
Iungerich is repped by 3 Arts and McKuin Frankel Whitehead.
