It’s official: author Rebecca Yarros‘ “Empyrean” book series is heading to the small screen with a new Amazon Prime Video series based on the first book, “Fourth Wing.” First released in 2023, “Fourth Wing” became a runaway bestseller, topping critics’ lists and TikTok charts alike. Tracing the story of Violet Sorrengail, who enters a college for dragon riders to prepare for war, the fantasy romance novel is still on the Amazon charts some three years later.
Two more books followed — “Iron Flame” and “Onyx Storm” — and now, Amazon has discounted the entire three-book set on the heels of the series adaptation news. This Amazon deal gets you all three books on hardcover for 29% off for a limited time. This is a great opportunity for new and old fans alike to catch up on the series before the show premieres. And while the books have gone through multiple reprints, this set features the original cover art for the hardcover release. Publishers Entangled: Red Tower Books recommends reading the three books in order. You can also purchase “Fourth Wing” on its own, to follow the story of Sorrengail as she fights for survival while navigating new relationships and working to uncover long-held secrets at Basgiath War College. This paperback edition below was released in 2024 and includes a bonus chapter with “deleted” scenes. You can also get “Fourth Wing” on Kindle or listen to the audiobook version on Audible, which currently has a 30-day free trial. “Fourth Wing” has spun off everything from an official card game to an adult coloring book, but the TV series has been in development for almost three years. Worth noting: Yarros has said that the “Empyrean” series is meant to have five books in total. The author released the first three books in the series in under two years, and had originally teased a 2027 date for the fourth installment. But Amazon currently as a pre-order link available for an “Untitled Empyrean” book, due out Sept. 29. An accompanying description adds that this is “not book four,” sending fans scrambling to uncover clues about what storyline or timeline the book lives under. What we do know: Yarros is also releasing a new contemporary romance novel, “Peculiar Stars,” on Nov. 17. Pre-order the book here.
