The coming-of-age dramedy “Rhythm Is a Dancer” has headed to the American Film Market (AFM) for worldwide sales. The film, which marks actor Lauren Caster’s feature filmmaking debut, follows Ro (Caster), “a struggling dancer who returns home after years away to meet her biological father for the first time, confronting the complexities of her unconventional upbringing and rediscovering her creative voice through unlikely friendships,” per an official synopsis.
In addition to Caster, the “Rhythm Is a Dancer” cast includes Tate Donovan (“Rocketman,” “Argo”), Amy Aquino (“Bosch,” “The Good Fight”) and Floriana Lima (“The Punisher,” “Supergirl”).
Back in October, “Rhythm Is a Dancer” received enthusiastic responses from audiences when it premiered at the Austin Film Festival. The film is now seeking international sales representation and distribution. HMJ72 Productions’ Jerry Morey, who serves as executive producer on “Rhythm Is a Dancer,” is on site at AFM meeting with potential partners. Caster’s previous acting credits include recurring appearances on series such as “PlayStation Girl,” “HitRECord on TV,” “Stitchers” and “Dark Woods.” She’s also written, produced and starred in multiple short films, including “Baby Got Books,” “Donor Baby,” “Plan C” and “Becoming.” HMJ72 Productions is a Los Angeles–based independent film company founded by Caster and producer Morey that mainly develops and produces character-driven stories with emotional resonance. A private industry screening of “Rhythm Is a Dancer” will take place on Thursday, Nov. 13, with cast members Donovan, Lima and Caster in attendance.
