Tiger Woods Biopic Set at Amazon MGM, Obamas to Produce
Amazon MGM is developing a movie about Tiger Woods with Barack and Michelle Obama’s company Higher Ground in talks to produce.
Based on Kevin Cook’s book “The Tiger Slam: The Inside Story of the Greatest Golf Ever Played,” the biographical drama will chart the rise of the child prodigy turned golf star. The book includes accounts from caddies, coaches, opponents and supporters of Woods. “King Richard” filmmaker Reinaldo Marcus Green is attached to direct.
After turning pro at age 20 in 1996, Woods became one of most recognizable golfers of all time. He has 15 major championship wins to his name, including 82 PGA Tour victories.

His life off the green, though rife with drama, won’t be depicted in the film, according to Deadline, which first reported the news of the project. Around the height of his career, Woods fell from grace after numerous extramarital affairs came to light in 2009. As part of the fallout, companies such as Accenture, AT&T, Gatorade and General Motors ended sponsorship deals with Woods. He was arrested in 2017 for driving under the influence and survived a serious car accident in 2021, though he sustained multiple leg injuries. He took a hiatus from golf but eventually returned and won his first major tournament in 11 years at the 2019 Masters.

The story of Woods has been documented in HBO’s two-part series “Tiger,” which aired in 2021. The documentary, based on the 2018 book Tiger Woods by Jeff Benedict and Armen Keteyian, examined the star athlete’s rise, fall and return in the world of golf. Variety’s Dan D’Addario praised “Tiger” for crafting a “compelling case for its subject as intriguing even after the reams of coverage he’s generated.”
Though the timeline on the Tiger Woods biopic is unclear, the news comes as Amazon MGM reaffirmed its desire to increase its investment in film. The studio recently shared plans to release 12 to 14 movies theatrically in 2026.
